The conditions of Mahindra’s agreement with SsangYong for sharing the X100 platform do not bar the sales of the XUV300 in any market worldwide other than South Korea and China.

The Mahindra XUV300 prototype seen here is most likely in hands of a Pininfarina engineer. Previously, Pininfarina has worked on the interior design of the Mahindra TUV300 and the Mahindra Marazzo’s styling. In a video released last month, Mahindra revealed that the upcoming model’s wind tunnel testing was done at the famed Italian design house's facility.

The conditions of Mahindra’s agreement with SsangYong for sharing the X100 platform do not bar the sales of the XUV300 in any market worldwide other than China and South Korea. However, with the SsangYong Tivoli already present in Italy, it seems unlikely that Mahindra will launch the XUV300 there. So far, the company has specifically confirmed one market - South Africa, where the launch will take place shortly after the market premiere in India on 15 February 2019.

In India, M&M will offer the XUV300 with two engine options: 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel. The former is a newly developed unit, while the latter is already on duty, in the Mahindra Marazzo. A 6-speed manual transmission will send drive to the front wheels in all configurations. An option for an automated manual transmission is likely to follow at a later stage, though.

M&M will start exporting the XUV300 shortly after its domestic launch, but the list of overseas markets may not include Italy.

The Mahindra XUV300 will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Styx in India. A pure electric variant is planned for launch in mid-2020.
