Will be based on a ladder-frame chassis.
After extensive spyshots and incessant reports, Mahindra will officially acknowledge the arrival of the upcoming Mahindra U301 (codename) by revealing its official name and new details on July 30.
From spyshots and reading web reports, we know that the Mahindra U301 will ride on a shortened version of the ladder-frame chassis from the Mahindra Scorpio, and feature a boxy, rugged design that will attract fans of the Bolero. Its compact proportions and rugged appeal will attract not only the commercial segment customers, but also people who find it cumbersome to drive a large SUV around cities.
For the U301, Mahindra will distance itself from utilitarian offerings by endowing it with a relatively premium interior with chrome and silver details, an infotainment system, and a two tone beige and black color combo. Reports suggest that Mahindra will introduce a 7-seater variant of the U301, although we expect it to be a tight fit in the third row, given the vehicle's short length.

Powering the U301 is a newly-developed 1.5-liter diesel engine from the Mahindra Quanto, which will be paired to a choice between an AMT and a manual transmission. Mahindra has reportedly been working hard in making the U301 one of the most fuel-efficient compact SUVs in India.
