Mahindra has unveiled its version of the fourth-gen SsangYong Rexton at Auto Expo 2018. The company has confirmed that it will launch the SUV in India with an all-new name.
The Mahindra-badged fourth-gen SsangYong Rexton gets a little different styling at the front. It features different radiator grille inserts, which are vertical chrome slats. The grille is in gloss black colour and there’s a wide horizontal chrome slat above it. Other exterior changes include Mahindra logos at the front and rear and on the wheels and a Mahindra badge at the rear. The interior is the same as that of the global version, save for a Mahindra badge on the steering wheel.
Under the hood, the Ford Endeavour rival has a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. A Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system work together to channel power to the wheels. A cheaper 6-speed manual transmission is available internationally, but it’s unknown whether Mahindra will offer it in its version
The 2018 SsangYong Rexton is available in 5- and 7-seat versions. Mahindra will bring its version in a 7-seat seating layout. The company has confirmed that it will offer HID headlamps with LED DRLs, electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, premium cognac brown leather upholstery, electric parking brake and 9 airbags in the mid-size SUV.
The Mahindra-badged fourth-gen SsangYong Rexton’s market launch is said to take place around Diwali this year, with prices likely starting at around INR 24 lakh (ex-showroom).
