Production of Lada XRAY to commence in December.
Lada's second product from its next generation family, the Lada XRAY hatchback, will have its market launch in early 2016 according to a new report on LadaVesta.net, which is inline with an earlier report stating that its production will commence in December.
The Lada XRAY will also spawn a crossover variant, unofficially christened as the Lada XRAY Cross, which would reach dealership in the end of 2016, adds the same report. The XRAY Cross will draw design cues from the Lada XRAY Concept 2 unveiled at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, although there are no images of the rumored variant available.
The Lada XRAY is based on the Renault Sandero platform, and has lower levels of localization than the Lada Vesta. It will be offered with a choice between three engines: a 1.6-liter unit with 106 hp and 114 hp, and a 1.8-liter engine with 122 hp. While the smaller 1.6-liter engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the 1.8-liter unit comes with an AMT, reports suggest.
The Lada XRAY could cost between 500,000 – 600,000 rubles, while the Lada XRAY Cross could cost slightly more.
