Series production scheduled for mid-December.
Following the launch of the Lada Vesta in Russia, AvtoVAZ will introduce their second all new product - the Lada XRAY in the coming months. Series production, as per Russian reports, is scheduled to begin in mid-December, and the car will not be as highly localized as the Vesta sedan. The hatchback, styled like a crossover, was unveiled in a concept guise at the Moscow Auto Show as the Lada X-Ray 2 concept.
The exterior design is based on Lada's latest design language, featuring a new front face with the X-motif, a dual slat grille flanked by a pair of large headlamps, and round fog lamps in the lower front fascia. The side profile gets two X-motif character lines that define the design. It also appears to have a relatively high ground clearance.
At the back, the car sports a horizontal wraparound taillamp, rear wiper, rear parking sensors and a black plastic cladding on the bumper.
Top-spec variants will come equipped with features like a 7-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, FM/AM, USB and AUX ports, steering mounted controls, cruise control, heated front seats, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, an SOS function that uses the ERA-GLONASS emergency response system, and a rear view camera.
The production-spec Lada XRAY is based on the Renault Sandero platform, and will be offered with a choice between three engines: a 1.6-liter unit with 106 hp and 114 hp, and a 1.8-liter engine with 122 hp. While the smaller 1.6-liter engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the 1.8-liter unit comes with an AMT, say reports.
Reports also suggest that the Lada XRAY is expected to cost between 500,000 - 600,000 rubles, and will arrive in showrooms early next year.
