At a launch party this evening hosted at the premises of the British High Commission in Chennai, Jaguar India announced the cheaper 2.2L diesel variant of the XF sedan for the Tamil Nadu market.
The 2.2L XF diesel is priced at 45.7 lakh rupees (ex-showroom, Chennai). Jaguar has presented the car in a few other cities and is taking a phased approach with the national launch.
Del Sehmar, Head of PR & Communications Jaguar Land Rover India began proceedings by bringing the elite gathering up to speed on the developments at JLR India. He said JLR's 17 dealers are spread across 15 cities. This fiscal year, JLR has posted a 157% sales increase compared to the previous year.
Tamil Nadu dealer principal Mr. V.S. Arun of V.S.T.Grandeur spoke after Sehmar's brief presentation and said a second dealership for the state, spread across 30k sq ft is nearing completion in Coimbatore, and would be ready to welcome its first customer shortly.
Coming to the real star of the evening, the 2.2L XF diesel is assembled at the JLR plant in Chikhli, Pune alongside the Land Rover Freelander 2. It is powered by 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine (not the 2.2L DICOR from Tata Motors) that makes 190PS of power and 450Nm of torque. It is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that shifts gears in 200 milliseconds.
The car brims with features such as rear view camera, TV tuner, navigation system, touch screen, gear shift paddles, electric sunroof, etc.
The XF is also offered with a bigger 3-liter V6 diesel engine and a 5-liter supercharged V8 petrol engine.
