The 2014 Honda City has gathered 10,000 bookings in Malaysia within a month of its launch (launched on March 20), easily surpassing the current record for a Honda vehicle of 3,000 bookings the fourth generation CR-V garnered within a month into the launch.
Honda says it would be able to dissolve the backlog by the end of June as a new production line is now on stream at the Pegoh plant where the car is produced.
The other good news for Honda Malaysia is a 30 percent improvement in sales in Q1 2014 compared to the same time last year. The company has announced that its cumulative sales goal for 2014 is 74,000 units.
The Malaysian City is feature healthy, getting a seven-inch touchscreen music system (Indian model gets a five-inch display that is not touch-responsive), VSC, side airbags and curtain airbags that amount to a total of 6 airbags (dual airbags at the most for India) and 16-inch wheels (compared to 15-inch in India).
The Malaysian City is extended in S, S+, E and the top-end V trims. The sedan is powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine (same as in India) making 120 hp and 145 Nm.
