DuPont, the world leader in automotive paints is ready with this year's annual color popularity report.
DuPont's report gives an idea about the color trends worldwide as well as in 11 important markets including India.
According to the report, white seems to be this year's most popular color globally. As much as 23% of new cars sported white color which was benefited by the now popular pearlescent finish that gives a premium feel to the cars. White gains the top spot for the second consecutive year.
Black which is seen as luxury symbol in many markets finishes at a close second overtaking silver with a coverage of 21% of cars sold globally. Silver rounds up the top three slots with 18% while grey takes the fourth position with 14%. The colors red and brown/beige have gained more acceptance while blue maintains its status quo compared to last year.
US and Canada mimic the global trend with white being the most popular automotive color followed by black. The white is favorite color choice for small crossovers and pickup trucks where as black dominated sedans and big SUVs.
In India, the colors silver and white have always been in a tussle and in 2012, silver just managed to outsell white by a margin of mere 1%. 28% of Indian cars were painted in silver. Brown/beige took the third spot and black stands at distant fifth place.
