Future Daihatsu compact cars developed for emerging markets will have a roomy interior, while retaining the compact exterior.

Jointly developed by Toyota and Daihatsu, the new modular platform aims to improve fuel efficiency, driveability and reduce costs of manufacturing. The Daihatsu Boon and its rebadged twin - the Toyota Passo - were the first two models to based on DNGA.

The DNGA architecture combines intensive high-tensile steel with resin outer panels to shed weight. Engineers created an interior that is roomier than that of the previous-generation vehicles, while keeping the compact exterior dimensions unchanged.

According to reports, an all-new small car that targets emerging markets is expected to get the green-light for launch in India within a couple of months. It is expected to be cost under INR 5 lakhs (ex-showroom), developed by Daihatsu, although for the Indian market it could be sold as a Toyota.
