Regular Indian Autos Blog readers know that GM India has stopped the production of the diesel variants of the Chevrolet Sail U-VA, Sail notchback and the Chevrolet Tavera BS-III over some quality issues.
The automaker was confident that the issues would be resolved at the earliest and the production would resume. Economic Times reports that GM India will restart the production of the Sail U-VA and the Sail sedan by the end of this month. The production of the BS-III Tavera will resume by the end of next month.
P. Balendran,Vice President, General Motors India, said -
We will start production of Sail HB (hatchback) & NB (notchback) diesels by end of July and Tavera by end of August.
The quality issues didn't affect the production of the petrol variants of the Sail twins and the BS-IV Tavera. Even though the Chevrolet Enjoy employs the same 1.3 litre diesel engine (Fiat MultiJet) as the Sail twins, the production of the MPV continues unaffected.
The temporary setback has hindered GM India's progress which was showing a positive sign this year while the auto industry as a whole is registering negative growth. In the month of June, GM India saw its sales slide by 10.71% with 6,575 units sold.
