Larger and more fuel efficient than the outgoing model.
Shanghai GM launched the Chevrolet Sail 3 Sedan (the next generation of the Sail) in Chengdu, China, last week, in a total of five variants and two engine options. Based on the joint venture's new-generation small car architecture, the Sail 3 is roomier than the outgoing model, Shanghai GM President Wang Yongqing said.
Offered with 1.3- and 1.5-liter engines, the Sail 3 is priced from 59,900 CNY (INR 6.08 lakhs) for the former and 73,900 CNY (INR 7.51 lakhs) for the latter. The 1.3-liter unit makes 101 hp and 127 Nm of torque, and the 1.5-liter unit makes 111 hp and 141 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is the only gearbox of choice.
The Sail 3 is more fuel efficient thanks to standard features like Stop-Start and a new EPS (Electronic Power Steering) which has reduced consumption by 3 percent.
The sedan measures 51 mm longer and 45 mm wider, with a longer wheelbase of 35 mm compared to its predecessor. This has translated to 6 mm more shoulder room at the front, 8 percent improvement in headroom and 25 percent more knee-room. The Sail 3 Sedan has a 366 liter boot, and 16 storage compartments.
For now, General Motors India have no plans of launching the new Sail 3 Sedan, as the company only recently updated the Sail twins (hatch and sedan) with a dual-tone interior and a new music system.
