Will be seen in US showrooms by spring of 2016.
The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid has been launched in US at a starting price of US$28,645. The car will be seen in showrooms in the spring of 2016.
The Malibu Hybrid LT borrows the hybrid powertrain that is slightly modified for use in the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. Instead of the 1.5-liter engine used in the Volt, the Malibu Hybrid is powered by a new Ecotec 1.8-liter hybrid optimized direct-injected engine that is mated to two electric motors. The combined output is rated at 182 hp (136 kW) with a GM-estimated combined fuel efficiency pegged at 47 mpg (20 km/l). The lithium-ion battery pack has a capacity of 1.5 kW and cannot be charged externally.
The interior is fitted with Chevrolet MyLink Radio with 7-inch diagonal color touch screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A rear vision camera, push-button start with passive entry cruise control and ten airbags are also part of standard fitment.
As far as safety is concerned, the 2016 Malibu Hybrid gets active safety systems such as Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Braking and Low Speed Front Automatic Braking. There is also a Teen Driver system available that supports safe driving habits by muting audio or any paired device when it detects that front-seat occupants are not wearing seat belts. It can also let parents view information pertaining to their children’s driving habits.
