Hero MotoCorp has commenced the deliveries of the BS-VI compliant Splendor iSmart. The company had launched the first BS-VI compliant motorcycle on 7 November 2019 at INR 64,900*. In comparison, the BS-IV model was available at INR 57,430*. Indra Prakash Singh of Delhi today was one of the early customers of BS-VI Hero Splendor iSmart.

The new, BS-VI Hero Splendor iSmart features a new engine that packs a slightly higher displacement, fuel injection system and 10% more torque than the BS-IV version. It has a 113.2 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that makes 9 hp and 9.89 Nm. The BS-IV version, for reference, used a 109.15 cc single-cylinder mill with a carburettor that made 9.5 hp and 9 Nm of peak torque. The proprietary Idle Stop and Start System (i3S) continues to be part of the package.
Hero MotoCorp claims an improvement in fuel efficiency, although the fuel economy rating is not available yet. The updated motor is also claimed to reduce carbon monoxide (CO) emission by 45%. The nitrogen oxide (NOx) levels are also said to be lower by 88%.
Styling upgrade exercise brings a few tweaks to the body panels and a new paint theme on the BS-VI version. Hero MotoCorp has retained budget bits such as halogen headlight and semi-digital instrument console to the BS-VI version. The braking setup, however, has received an upgrade, and the new Splendor iSmart is now available with an optional, 240 mm disc at the front.
Hero MotoCorp has also revised the chassis setup, and the BS-VI Splendor iSmart uses a diamond frame. The BS-IV model, for reference, used a tubular double cradle chassis. The company has also increased the suspension travel and wheelbase for better comfort and stability respectively. The fuel tank capacity has also gone up by one litre (9.5 litres vs 8.5 litres). The kerb weight, on the other hand, remains unaffected at 116 kg.
The BS-VI Splendor iSmart is available in three colour options – Sports Red & Black, Techno Blue & Black and Force Silver & Heavy Grey.

The Hero Splendor iSmart is the first BS-VI motorcycle to reach the Indian market, while India Yamaha Motor have recently updated its portfolio with the launch of BS-VI FZ-FI and FZS-FI. Hero MotoCorp’s former partner, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India will introduce its first BS-VI model, most likely the updated CB Shine, on 14 November.
