Update - Press shots and press release added to the story.
BMW India have launched a limited edition of their entry-level 1 Series hatchback. The BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition is limited to 111 units pan India, and sales of the car have already started at all dealerships.
The M Performance edition does not bring any performance upgrades to the hatchback. It is based on the top-end diesel variant of the 1 Series which is powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-power turbo engine making 143 bhp @ 4,000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque between 1,750 - 2,500 rpm. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and achieves an ARAI rated efficiency of 20.58 km/l.
The M Performance kit adds sportier front and rear bumpers, side skirts, different alloy wheels and body stripes.
The pan-India ex-showroom prices are -
- BMW 116i M Performance Edition : INR 22,65,000
- BMW 118d M Performance Edition : INR 25,60,000
- BMW 118d Sport M Performance Edition : INR 28,55,000
- BMW 118d Sport Plus M Performance Edition : INR 32,50,000
Special editions seem to have found their way to the luxury segment as well, with Mercedes having launched a special edition on the A and B Class just last month.
The 1 Series is assembled at BMW India's Chennai facility from CKD kits. Internationally, BMW are preparing a mid-life facelift for the car which is expected to launch by the end of this year, or early next year.
