Audi India today launched the A3 Cabriolet, the convertible version of the recently launched A3 Sedan at a price of INR 44.75 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. Showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year, the A3 Cabriolet is more of a brand shaper for Audi, than a serious volume contributor.
The A3 Cabriolet is imported into the country via the CBU (Completely Built up Unit) route, unlike the Sedan which is assembled at the company's Aurangabad facility.
The A3 Cabriolet is powered exclusively by a 1.8-liter turbocharged petrol engine which makes 180 PS (177.4 bhp) and 350 Nm of torque, driven by a 7-speed DSG transmission.
At the push of a button, the fabric roof of the Cabriolet can open/close in 18 seconds, and operates even at speeds up to 50 km/h. Save for the roof, the rest of the cabin is pretty much identical to the A3 Sedan. Circular turbine-like AC vents, a retractable MMI screen, climate control, powered seats and leather upholstery are among the other features of the car.
For now, there are no competitors to the A3 Sedan. BMW used to offer the 3 Series convertible in India, but the model was pulled out from India after its discontinuation globally.
