Ashok Leyland has launched the Boss range of Intermediate Commercial Vehicles (ICV) in India.
The Boss range of trucks is essentially Ashok Leyland-badged Avia trucks. Avia is a Czech truck brand that is a group company of the Hinduja Group. The Boss truck range for the Indian market will be manufactured in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.
There are three models with haulage of 9.6T, 11.9T and 12.9T GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) available currently. Each truck is available in two variants - LE and LX.
The LE is powered by a 120 HP H-series BS3 engine that is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox whereas the LX is powered by a 130hp common rail diesel engine which is paired to an industry-first Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) that eliminates the need of clutching. The LX comes with factory fitted AC.
Notable features are hydraulic power steering, hydraulic cab-tilt mechanism and an ergonomically laid out cabin. Boss trucks are offered with a service interval of 40,000km, three-year anti-perforation warranty for the cabin and a five-year replacement guarantee on the rear LED lights. The range also gets a three-year full vehicle warranty which can be extended by another two years.
