Earlier this month, a test mule of the Kia SP2i revealed its 18-inch dual-tone machined alloy wheels. In a new development, Motoroctane has spotted a low-spec variant that clearly flaunts its five-spoke wheel covers.
So far, the spy media has suggested a significant resemblance between the exterior of the Kia SP2i and the SP Concept. The DLO of the production version, however, seems to be a tad larger, while even the front facade is likely to come across as a slightly watered-down version of the show car's fascia.
On the inside, the Kia SP2i is likely to come packed with a host of high-end features, especially in the top-spec trim, which will offer a 360-degree camera, head-up display, ambient lighting, WiFi and wireless charging. Engine options for the new model will include 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units. A performance-focussed variant featuring a 1.4-litre T-GDI turbocharged direct injection petrol engine is likely to be on the anvil and should be launched at a later stage.
The Kia SP2i is underpinned by a repurposed version of the Hyundai Creta's platform. The updated architecture should help the new model offer improved vehicle dynamics and higher crash protection. The same platform will be even used to underpin the next-gen Creta and will be capable of supporting a seven-seater variant if demand persists. While the SP2i is being developed keeping in mind the Indian tastes, it will be a global model that will sit above the Kia Stonic in the company's product brochure.

The Kia SP2i is expected to be sold in a price range of INR 10-16 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model will target young car buyers.
