Tata Motors is working on an automatic transmission option for the Harrier. GaadiWaadi.com has published a close-up image of this optional transmission’s gearshift lever.
Tata Motors offers the Harrier with only a 6-speed manual transmission currently. It is testing a 6-speed automatic transmission in the C-SUV for a later release, though. Reports say that this unit is made by Hyundai and the same unit that is offered in the Creta. At Tata Motors, the 6-speed automatic transmission will debut in the H7X and then become available in the Harrier.
While a 6-speed automatic transmission is a given for the Harrier, a more powerful engine is also likely. The company may offer the 170 PS 2.0-litre diesel engine that will debut in the seven-seat version, which will have a different name and arrive in the second half of this year. This engine, also sourced from FCA, is likely to carry ‘Kryotec170’ branding.
The Tata Harrier sits on the Land Rover derived-D8 platform and is the first production model to embody the IMPACT 2.0 design language. The first modern-day C-SUV from Tata Motors slots below the Tata Hexa in the line-up. Two-tier headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system 9-speaker JBL sound system, semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch colour display, six airbags and ESP are some of the key features of the Jeep Compass rival.
