The Maruti Ciaz equipped with the all-new 1.5L diesel engine won’t feature a mild-hybrid system, says a new report from CarDekho. The 1.5L petrol and 1.3L diesel engine models currently on sale feature the dual-battery Smart Hybrid system as standard.

The all-new 1.5L diesel engine for the Maruti Ciaz is codenamed ‘E15A’. Maruti Suzuki brands its diesel engines with ‘DDiS’ followed by torque count. The E15A engine for the flagship sedan is dubbed ‘DDiS 225’, and it produces 94 bhp (95.30 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm. Initially, it will comply with BSIV emission norms.

The D13A 1.3L DDiS 200 diesel engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The E15A 1.5L DDiS 225 diesel engine will channel power to the wheels via an all-new 6-speed manual transmission - a first for a Maruti Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki doesn’t plan to upgrade the smaller diesel engine to BSVI norms that will become effective on 1 April 2020. So, by early next year, it will pull the plug on this engine.

Maruti Suzuki will offer the all-new diesel engine in the Delta, Zeta and Alpha grades, not the entry-level Sigma grade. That may change by early next year, though, when the old diesel engine ceases to exist.
