The first images of the 2019 Maruti WagonR’s exterior and interior are unofficially out now. Here’s a visual comparison between the all-new model and the predecessor.
Like the outgoing Maruti WagonR, the new generation model, though looking more rounded, isn’t your beauty contest winner. The boxy entry-level hatchback appears to have a more upright hood, and it features squarish headlamps, lower and wider air intake and a rather simplistic bumper.
On the sides, the squarish wheel arches are new, and they do help mitigate the tiny wheels from catching much attention. This is the angle where it becomes evident that the height doesn’t increase towards the rear as noticeably now. The rear door is shorter in length, thanks to the deletion of the quarter glass. The black C-pillar motif is an attempt at making the car look more stylish.
At the rear, the 2019 Maruti WagonR features large vertical tail lamps reminiscent of the latest Maruti Ertiga. Inside, there’s a dual-tone colour scheme. The all-new model features the Ignis’ steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls as well as a touchscreen infotainment system. Designers have integrated the gearshift lever into the centre console to leave out more space near the front seats. A touchscreen infotainment system is a part of the factory-fitted equipment.
The 2019 Maruti WagonR measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height. Compared to the old Maruti WagonR, it is 56 mm longer, 125 mm wider and 25 mm lower. In comparison with the outgoing model's VXi grade that was formerly known as the Stingray variant, though, the difference in the length, width and height are +19 mm, +145 mm and +5 mm respectively. The wheelbase has grown by 35 mm to 2,435 mm. The turning radius has worsened, though, increasing from 4.6 metres to 4.7 metres.
The third generation Maruti WagonR is available with an enhanced version of the K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as well as the new K12M 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The updated three-cylinder engine produces 50 kW (67.98 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The maximum power is now delivered earlier, at 5,500 rpm, instead of 6,000 rpm before. The four-cylinder engine develops 61 kW (82.94 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm.
Maruti Suzuki offers both the engines with a standard 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 5-speed automated manual transmission. There's no CNG-compliant version of the K10B engine at this time.

Maruti Suzuki has started taking pre-orders for the 2019 WagonR online and at dealerships for a deposit of INR 11,000. It will launch the third generation model on the 23rd of January.
The old model came in Superior White, Bakers Chocolate, Breeze Blue, Silky Silver, Passion Red, Glistening Grey and Midnight Blue colours. The new car is available in Pearl Poolside Blue (new), Pearl Nutmeg Brown (new), Magma Grey (new), Pearl Autumn Orange (new), Silky Silver and Superior White colours.
