KTM has launched the ABS-equipped 200 Duke in the Indian market ahead of the upcoming safety norms that come into effect from April 2019.

Unlike the 390 Duke, the 200 cc variant comes with a single-channel ABS. The relatively inexpensive unit results in a price increase of little over INR 8,000.

The 200 Duke ABS was launched in India at an ex-showroom Delhi price tag of INR 1,60,000, which is little over INR 8,000 more than the standard. The marginal price hike is a result of a single-channel ABS from Bosch instead of a dual-channel unit. The motorcycle is available in three colours options – Orange, White and Black across 450 exclusive KTM showrooms in India.

Next, we expect the fully faired RC200, similar to the 200 Duke, to launch with a single-channel ABS, and the non-ABS variants to be discontinued within weeks. Note that the non-ABS Bajaj Dominar 400 has been suspended from the Indian market.

Apart from the addition of ABS, there are no visual or mechanical changes in the motorcycle. The KTM 200 Duke received updated graphics in 2017 when the two-wheeler brand introduced the BS-IV variant of the motorcycle.

The ABS-equipped KTM 200 Duke continues to use a 199.5cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, fuel-injected engine that produces 25 PS of maximum power at 10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 revs. The motor comes mated with a six-speed gearbox. Stopping power comes from a 280 mm single disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear while the Bosch sourced single-channel ABS is installed on the front. Upside down suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear perform the shock absorption tasks.

Apart from the 200 Duke ABS, KTM also launched the 125 Duke ABS in the Indian market at an introductory price of INR 118,163 (ex-showroom Delhi) in November 2018. The 125 Duke is priced very close to the TVS Apache RTR200 4V ABS (INR 1.11 lakh*), Bajaj Pulsar NS200 ABS (INR 1.12 lakh*), Yamaha FZ25 (INR 1.19 lakh*) and the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 (INR 1.27 lakh*) – all of which feature a more powerful engine.
