The Tata Harrier will be showcased to select media next month. While the company has already revealed the exterior of its new flagship, details of the interior have remained scarce so far. That said, a new report by CarDekho claims that the new model will offer a front armrest with an in-built cooled storage area and dedicated smartphone storage slots for every passenger.
Reportedly, Tata Motors has chosen to equip the storage space in the front armrest with a cooler as it's far more accessible for the rear occupants than the glove compartment. Furthermore, dedicated slots for the storage of smartphones will be found on the rear doors and the central console.
Other than this, our exclusive images have revealed that unlike the exterior, which mimics the H5X to a large extent, the interior of the Tata Harrier won't have the button-less design of the show car. Instead, the highlight of the dashboard will be a large touchscreen infotainment unit that is likely to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The instrument binnacle will have monochrome back-lighting, while the cabin will have a black-beige colour theme. The steering wheel will be a small diameter unit, but its centre-pad won't be similar to those found on other Tata models. The Harrier, unlike the Hexa, won't have rotary controls for the headlamps.
On the outside, the Tata Harrier will become the first-ever production model to follow the IMPACT 2.0 design language. The exterior design of the production model mimics that of the H5X design study to a great extent. Its major highlights include a multi-tier light setup and a Tri-Arrow pattern. The rear-end is characterised by a set of sleek JLR-like LED taillamps.
Underpinning the Tata Harrier is the company's Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA ARC) platform. Based on Land Rover's robust D8 platform, the world-class architecture should provide the new flagship with well-sorted dynamics. The new model will be powered by an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II turbocharged diesel engine that has been re-branded as 'Kryotec'. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic unit.
The market launch of the Tata Harrier will take place in January this year. The new flagship is being produced on a newly setup manufacturing line at the company's Pune facility.
