Tata Tiago JTP & Tata Tigor JTP to be unveiled on 23 October

Tata Motors will enter the performance vehicle segment this festive season with the launch of the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP. The company has confirmed the media unveiling of the final specification model on 23 October.

The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP are the first models developed by Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives’ 50:50 joint venture company JT Special Vehicles. Showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, the JTP variants of the entry-level cars sit lower with, have a sportier styling and a more powerful engine.

The Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP’s key features will include distinctive bumpers, larger air dam, unique grille inserts, bonnet vent, side skirts, 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, twin exhaust tips, leather upholstery with red stitching, red accents on AC vents and aluminium pedals. For the hatchback, the smoked projector headlamps are also a major add-on, as they are unavailable in the standard variant.

The JTP cars displayed at Auto Expo 2018 employed the 1.2-litre JTP turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm. Citing Mayank Pareek, President (PV unit), Tata Motors, a recent report claimed a maximum power of over 110 hp. A specially tuned 5-speed manual transmission will send drive to the wheels, meaning the speciality is in the driving performance.

Tata Motors may sell the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP in a single completely-equipped grade. Retail prices should fall in the INR 6-8 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket. The hatchback will compete with the Maruti Baleno RS and VW Polo GT TSI, both of which are bigger models, while the sedan will have no rival as such.
