The Tata Tiago JTP showcased at Auto Expo 2018 sports a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 110 PS (108.45 hp) at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm. Now, speaking to Autocar India, Mayank Pareek, President (PV unit), Tata Motors, has revealed that the road-ready version will employ a more potent engine.

Asked if the Tata Tiago JTP’s 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine will offer more power than in the Tata Nexon, Pareek said: “Absolutely”.

“The car is similar to what you saw at the Auto Expo. The engine is tuned to be sportier. Power has been improved, and that much power in a car that small feels like a lot. I have driven it, and the roar from that engine is exceptional.”

In the Tata Nexon, the 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine produces 110 PS (108.45) at 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque at 1,750-4,000 rpm. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The re-tuned version in the Tata Tiago JTP will send drive to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission (with optimised gear ratios). A firmer suspension setup will offer a more spirited driving experience than the standard variant.

The Tata Tiago JTP will have a sportier exterior than the standard variant. It will feature smoked headlamps, unique bumpers, a hood scoop, larger air dam, 15-inch alloy wheels in distinctive design and twin exhaust tips. Interior highlights will include premium leather upholstery with red stitching, sport pedals and red accents on the AC vents.
