Gearing up for the Tata Harrier’s launch early next year, Tata Motors has started revealing new product details. The company says well ahead of the launch that the OTR prices of the SUV are expected to range from INR 16-21 lakh.
Tata Motors hasn't disclosed the city for which it is giving out the tentative OTR pricing, but it’s clear that the idea is to significantly undercut the Jeep Compass. OTR prices of the arch-rival start at INR 17,91,193 in Delhi and at INR 18,22,310 in Mumbai. The ex-showroom prices of the Tata Harrier could fall somewhere between INR 13-14 lakh. So, in terms of pricing, it may sit perfectly between premium SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass.
The Tata Harrier is underpinned by a modified version of the D8 platform developed by Jaguar Land Rover. It will come with a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine as standard. This engine is actually a rebranded 140 PS 2.0-litre MultiJet II engine made by FCA. In addition to a 6-speed manual transmission, there’s speak of an optional 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai as well. In all configurations, expect power to go to solely the front wheels, as the availability of an AWD system is unlikely.
