A little over a month from now, the Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP are set to reach dealer showrooms in India. The JTP variants will arrive as the first performance offerings from the homegrown automaker.
Revealing Tata Motors' product plans for the festive season today at the Tiago NRG launch, CEO Guenter Butschek said that four launches are pending. These will include the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP developed by Jayem Tata Performance, a joint venture of Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives. Both cars had debuted at the Auto Expo 2018 as near-production concepts.
The JTP variants feature smoked headlamps, an edgier front bumper, reshaped lower air intake, unique honeycomb grille, hood vent, 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels wrapped in 185/60 R15 tyres, side skirts, faux fender vents, faux rear diffuser, twin-tip exhaust tailpipe and black roof. Leather seats & steering with contrast red stitching and aluminium pedals complement the sporty exterior.
The hatchback measures 3,746 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width and 1,502 mm in height. The sedan is 3,992 mm long, 1,677 mm wide and 1,502 mm high. Both have a reduced ground clearance (161 mm) for improved handling. They share the 1.2-litre JTP turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission with optimised gear ratios.
