Last week, Mahindra released the Marazzo’s demo video on the dedicated YouTube channel. The video covers all aspects of the MPV: design, comfort and convenience, performance, safety and technology.
The Mahindra Marazzo’s design is an outcome of a collaboration between Pininfarina (Italy) and Mahindra Design Studio (India). Mahindra has a wide portfolio of crossover/SUV products and plans to expand it with two new models by the end of this fiscal. Satisfied with the SUV variants in showrooms and the pipeline, it wanted the Marazzo in a proper MPV form. Hence the traditional styling that goes against the latest global trend of SUV-like looks on people carriers, Honda BR-V, Mitsubishi Xpander and Peugeot 5008 to cite a few.
Twin chamber projector headlamps, leaf-shaped fog lamps with LED DRLs, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and piano black dashboard are a few design highlights of the MPV. The designers have taken inspiration from the shark for some elements, such as the radiator grille inserts, tail lamps, antenna and the roof-mounted air vents with industry-first surround cool technology.
Other salient features include 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leatherette upholstery and first-in-class sunshade for second-row passengers. Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, speed and impact sensing auto door locks and first-in-class four-wheel disc brakes are standard.
M&M has developed the Marazzo on a patented body-on-frame FWD architecture, with which it aims to offer car-like agileness and the sturdiness of a body-on-frame vehicle. It provides the MPV with only a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 121 hp and 300 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. Petrol engine and AT options will arrive in 2020.
