IAB has got hold of the first official images of the MG E ZS, the pure electric variant of the brand’s smallest SUV that is undergoing road testing in India. Spy shots of its odd prototype emerged just last month from China.

The MG E ZS has the same exterior design as the MG ZS.

The MG E ZS has the same design as the ICE-powered variant. Typical of new energy vehicles, it features unique alloy wheels. These 16- or 17-inch wheels are wrapped in 205/60R16 or 215/50R17 tyres respectively. At the rear, a small green ‘E’ before the ZS badge is the only other indicator. Spy shots are proof that the interior also will look mostly similar to the ZS.

The MG E ZS measures 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width and 1,620 mm/1,644 mm in height. It has a 2,585 mm wheelbase. The only difference from the standard variant is with the height (MG ZS: 1,648 mm). In place of a four-cylinder petrol engine, there’s an electric motor in this variant. Produced by Huayu Automotive, it delivers a maximum output of 110 kW (150 PS). In comparison, the most powerful engine, the 1.0-litre TGI petrol unit, delivers 92 kW (125 PS).

SAIC Motor produces the MG E ZS at its Zhengzhou plant in Henan province, China. The company could launch the new energy vehicle in the domestic market sometime later this year.

In India, the Chinese auto conglomerate will launch an MG-badged Baojun 530 as its first model in the second quarter of 2019. Company spokesmen have said in interviews that MG will bring down electrified cars if there is a demand.
