As per a report from Zigwheels, the launch of the hatchback that is widely reported to restore the Hyundai Santro nameplate is confirmed to take place before October 2018.

Like the original Santro, the AH2 has a tall-boy profile, which should translate to easier ingress and egress and generous headroom.

Zigwheels reckons that September 23, 2018, is a suitable date for the launch of the new Hyundai Santro. September 23, 1998, was when the original Hyundai Santro arrived in India, the reason the publication believes the same date twenty years on will be suitable for the launch of its spiritual successor. Such a move will also play well with the brand's recent nostalgia-driven 'Brilliant Moments' campaign.

However, this launch date will contradict Sr. GM & Group Head - Marketing, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, Puneet Anand's recent statement that the launch of the Hyundai AH2 aka Hyundai Santro will mark the end of the 'Brilliant Moments' campaign that is scheduled to run for four months. Based on his statement, the hatchback should arrive towards the end of October, not September.

It is possible that HMIL may be planning a media showcase on 23 September followed by a market launch and price announcement a month later. Hyundai has taken this road in the past for the Verna and Creta - unveiling the car weeks ahead of the customer launch.

For the AH2 (new Santro), Hyundai will put the first generation i10's HA platform to use. Its 1.1 L petrol engine, with upgrades, is expected to make a comeback as well. Past reports have revealed multiple aspects related to the car's design, features, and interior.
