The tenth-gen Honda Civic and fifth-gen Honda CR-V’s test production in India has commenced, reports Team-BHP. Both models will go on sale in the country this financial year (by March 31, 2019).
The tenth generation Honda Civic and fifth generation Honda CR-V both are expected to reach our shores in CKD kits, with the assembly taking place at the Greater Noida plant. Honda has already built three units of the Civic for the various tests, and it is producing a small batch of CR-Vs as well. Two years back, a report had said that the latter would have a localisation level of 65%.
The tenth-gen Honda Civic debuted in November 2015, and it will receive a facelift for MY2019. Reports say that Honda will directly launch the facelifted model in India. The Hyundai Elantra rival will arrive here with a 1.8-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbocharged diesel engine. These engines deliver 141 PS/174 Nm and 120 PS/300 Nm respectively. The company could offer the petrol engine with a CVT as standard and the diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 9-speed automatic transmission.
The fifth-gen Honda CR-V arrived in October 2016, and it will arrive as is here. Its engine options will include 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol and - in a first for a Honda CR-V - 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel. The naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 173 PS and 224 Nm of torque, will likely come with a CVT as standard.

The diesel engine is available in two versions globally. One is the aforementioned single-turbocharged version, and the other is the twin-turbocharged version that develops 160 PS and 350 Nm of torque. In our market, Honda will likely offer the 120 PS version with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
