Maruti Suzuki is readying an update for the Ciaz sedan. It has been undergoing intensive rear world testing as evident from the numerous spy shots that have emerged over the last few months. The 2018 Maruti Ciaz (facelift) will reach showrooms in June-July 2018 reports Autocar India.

IAB's 2018 Maruti Ciaz rendering based on spy shots shows what the updated model's front end may look like.

Changes to the exterior will include an updated nose with a sleeker grille and reworked bumper. The test mules that have been spotted so far sport the same headlamps as the current model. Over at the back, the Maruti Ciaz facelift will feature a revised bumper and an altered tail lamp cluster with a narrower turn indicator and reverse light.

In April, it was reported that Maruti will replace the current 1.4 L petrol engine with a new 1.5 L unit. This unit is expected to develop around 104 PS of max power and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The current 1.4 L mill makes 92 PS and 130 Nm and comes paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Ciaz is also reported to get a new 1.5 L diesel engine developed in-house by Suzuki. However, this engine makes it to the sedan right from launch or is introduced at a later stage remains to be seen.

The Maruti Ciaz has been one of the best sellers in its segment since its arrival in October 2014. The sedan has not received any major updates since its launch, aside from the addition of mild hybrid tech to the diesel variant. April 2017 onwards, the sales of the Maruti Ciaz shifted from regular Arena dealerships to the company's premium Nexa outlets.

In terms of pricing, there could be incremental changes if the Ciaz gains bigger engines. Maruti may consider adding more features, especially to the top-end grades, which could contribute to a price rise. Currently, the Maruti Ciaz starts at INR 7,83,383 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base Sigma petrol while the Sigma diesel is priced at INR 9,49,876 (ex-showroom Delhi). Petrol and diesel variants of the Ciaz S are priced at INR 9,59,008 and INR 11,62,311 respectively ex-showroom Delhi. Rivals of the Maruti Ciaz include Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, Skoda Rapid, and the new Toyota Yaris.
