Suzuki Motorcycle India has slashed the prices of the 2018 Suzuki Hayabusa and the Suzuki GSX-R1000R. The reduction in prices comes after the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) announced that the customs duty of all CBU motorcycles is set at 50%.
It was earlier 60% for motorcycles of 800 cc or less and 75% for more than 800cc. For Completely Knocked Down (CKD) bikes, if the powertrain (engine and gearbox assembly) are in pre-assembled form, but not mounted on the body assembly, then the customs duty stadnds at 25%. This is down from 30% earlier. However, for engine, gearbox and transmission mechanism not in a pre-assembled condition, the duty stands at 15%, which has increased from 10%.
Based on the directive, the price of the Suzuki GSX-R1000R has gone down from INR 22 lakhs to INR 19.80 lakhs, both ex-showroom, Delhi. This translates to a price difference of INR 2.2 lakhs. Coming to the CKD offering, the 2018 Suzuki Hayabusa is cheaper by INR 28,000 at a price of INR 13.59 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Japanese brand is yet to announce any price changes for the rest of its big-bike portfolio. The Hayabusa’s rival, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R is INR 6.11 lakhs dearer.
