Bikewale reports that UM is planning to launch the carburetted variants of the UM Renegade Sports S and the UM Renegade Commando to make them more affordable.
As per the website, UM’s market research and the feedback from customers hinted at the need for carburetted models as they are cheaper than bikes with fuel injection. The brand also feels that there is potential for carburetted bikes in the market. The website reports that the carburetted variants of the UM Renegade Sports S and the UM Renegade Commando will enter the market after the 2018 India Auto Expo in February. The bikes will remain in the market until the enforcement of BS-VI emission norms.
It is likely that the carburetted variants will be around INR 10,000 less expensive than the one with fuel injection. Expect a minor change in the power output as well. At present, the two motorcycles employ a 279.5 cc single cylinder engine with liquid cooling and fuel injection. It produces 25.15 PS at 8,500 rpm, and 23 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. A 6-speed transmission does duty in the two bikes.
Currently, all of UM’s bikes feature fuel injection. The UM Renegade Sports S costs INR 1,59,652; and the UM Renegade Commando is priced at INR 1,76,091, both ex-showroom, Delhi. The primary competitors of the UM range are the Classic and Thunderbird range from Royal Enfield.
