All-new Maruti Swift to be built exclusively at the Gujarat plant

The first- and second-gen Maruti Swift were built in Gurgaon, but the 2018 Maruti Swift’s production won’t take place there. Maruti Suzuki has decided to build the third-gen Maruti Swift exclusively at the Gujarat plant, says a report from The Economic Times.

The Gujarat plant, located in Hansalpur (Ahmedabad district), is Suzuki’s first wholly-owned plant in India. Production at this plant commenced in February 2017 and only the Maruti Baleno is currently produced there. Now, R. S. Kalsi, Sr. Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), has confirmed that Suzuki’s Gujarat plant will exclusively build the third-gen Maruti Swift in India. Production for the export markets will also take place there only.

The 2018 Maruti Swift measures 3,840 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,530 mm in height. It is 10 mm shorter and 40 mm wider but the same in height as the old model. The wheelbase has grown by 20 mm to 2,450 mm. The all-new Maruti Swift has a ground clearance of 163 mm.

The 2018 Maruti Swift continues with the old model’s 1.2-litre VVT petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS 190 diesel engine. The petrol engine now produces 84.3 PS (±0 PS) and 113 Nm (-2 Nm) of torque. The diesel engine develops 75 PS (± 0 PS) and 190 Nm of torque (± 0 Nm) of torque. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual and 5-speed AGS automated manual.

LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs, 15-inch precision-cut alloy wheels and LED tail lamps are the key exterior features of the 2018 Maruti Swift. Interior highlights include leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel, engine push-start stop button, automatic climate control and Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD and BA are standard.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2018 Maruti Swift at Auto Expo 2018 next month. Dealerships have started taking pre-orders for an amount of INR 11,000.
