The Jeep Compass was initially available in India with a manual transmission. An AT option was introduced during the festive season, but only in the petrol engine model. The Jeep Compass diesel AT was expected to join the range this month, but that is unlikely to happen, according to a report from Motor Octane.
The reason behind the delay is the overwhelming demand for the existing variants of the Jeep Compass. The Jeep Compass petrol AT has a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Jeep Compass diesel AT will get a segment-first ZF 9-speed automatic transmission.
The Jeep Compass diesel is powered by the 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 173 PS at 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,750-2,500 rpm. The fuel economy (ARAI) is rated at 17.1 km/l (4x2)/16.3 km/l (4x4). The diesel engine is available in Sport 4x2, Longitude 4x2, Limited 4x2 and Limited 4x4 configurations. Jeep may offer the automatic only in the Limited configuration.
