The 2018 VW Polo GTI is the first-ever VW Polo GTI to sport a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. The 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol mill is from the third-gen EA888 engine series. It produces 200 PS from 4,400-6,000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,500-4,400 rpm. The 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard, for now. From 2018, Volkswagen will offer the all-new Polo GTI with a 6-speed manual transmission too. Power goes only to the front wheels. The DSG-fitted Polo GTI can reach from 0-100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 237 km/h.

Volkswagen offers the 2018 VW Polo GTI with 'sports running gear' as standard. This means that the car has specially tuned springs, auxiliary springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars with the body riding 15 mm lower. As an option, buyers can go for ‘Sport Select’ running gear as well.

With the Sport Select running gear, the driver can vary the characteristics of the active dampers. Using driving profile selection, the driver can select from Normal, Sport, Eco, Comfort and Individual modes. It enables the driver to make individual adjustments to change the way the car handles, but all that is within a defined range, of course. The selected profile has effects on the running gear, and it also modifies the steering, engine characteristics and gearbox control.

Components included in the Sport Select running gear are active dampers, a larger anti-roll bar on the front axle, firmer steering rods at the front and firmer axle controls at the rear. The Polo GTI specified with this running gear also has a 15 mm lower body.

The 2018 VW Polo GTI is immediately recognisable thanks to exclusive styling elements. At the front, it features model-specific bumper with C-shaped black high-gloss panels in the bottom portion and an integrated spoiler lip, the signature red stripe running across the the radiator grille with the GTI logo above it and LED headlights with red winglets (optional).

On the sides, the all-new VW Polo GTI sports 17-inch Milton Keynes alloy wheels with 215/45 tyres, red brake callipers, matt black sill extensions and red and chrome coloured GTI badge at the end of the 3D tornado line. 18-inch Brescia alloy wheels with 215/40 tyres are optional.

At the rear, the new generation VW Polo GTI sports two-part roof spoiler having gloss black colour on the top and matt black colour underneath, black painted honeycomb structure in the lower bumper, chrome dual tailpipes, dark red LED tail lights and GTI lettering on the boot lid.
