Royal Enfield 650 Twins India launch in summer 2018 – Report

Eicher Motors CEO & MD Siddhartha Lal has confirmed to CarandBike that the Royal Enfield 650 Twins will enter the Indian shores in the summer of 2018.

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins were showcased at the 2017 Royal Enfield Rider Mania in Goa. Speaking to the media house on the side-lines of the event, Lal said that after the bikes enter the European market, they will be launched in India in the summer of 2018 (May-June). According to Lal, the bikes will be manufactured at the Chennai plant; and the company will increase the production phase-wise through the year. Lal revealed that by the end of next year, the bikes will be available at all the 750 dealerships across India.

Elaborating on the reason for the Europe-first launch, President, Royal Enfield, Rudratej (Rudy) Singh said that the company is planning to tap into the riding season in the continent, which begins in April. A large section of the European population are A2 licence holders; and the Royal Enfield 650 Twins are A2 licence compatible as well. Rudy explained that with the two bikes, the brand aims to allure younger riders to take up motorcycling, as the number of motorcyclists have gone down considerably in recent times, in the continent.

In addition to European market, the company also plans to bolster its presence in the ASEAN and Latin American markets. The cult bike maker has collaborated with Pirelli to supply the Phantom Sportscomp tyres for the Royal Enfield 650 Twins.
