Overdrive reports that bookings for Maruti Suzuki's first sub-4m pseudo crossover are open across all dealerships in India for a minimum deposit of INR 10,000. The Maruti Celerio X is reported to go on sale at the end of this month.
Hatchbacks with crossover bits and higher ground clearance have worked in India, so it wasn't a surprise when Maruti decided to launch one of their one. Most rival manufacturers have such offerings in a segment higher than the Celerio X. The only rival we can think of is the Renault Kwid 1.0L and 1.0L AMT. Prices of the Celerio cross could start at around INR 4.30 lakh (ex-showroom).
Spyshots from yesterday completely revealed the exterior, showing the usual black plastic cladding around its wheel arches and bumpers. Maruti could've stopped there, but instead, they've slightly facelifted its fascia. It has a black radiator grille, a honeycomb mesh air dam, and gloss-black inserts on the boomerang-esque fog lamp housing. The model snapped is also finished in a new orange exterior colour.
No changes will be made under the hood, however. It packs the K10B 1.0-litre petrol engine that develops 50 kW (67.02 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. A 5-speed manual or 5-speed AGS (automated manual) are the transmission options. Expect certified fuel mileage to be around 23.1 km/L.
