Volkswagen India has silently upgraded the VW Polo's 5-inch touchscreen with a 7-inch unit in India. The report by Fly Wheel also lists a handful of minor changes to the Highline trim of the VW Polo.

The upsized touchscreen offers Mirror Link, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto smartphone integration.

The new 7-inch touchscreen offers support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Mirror Link. The size increment brings the VW Polo at par with its rivals Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20, which get 7-inch touchscreen displays as well. The VW Vento and VW Ameo will gain the new touchscreen as well.

The VW Polo Highline features list has been rejigged. Aside from the introduction of the bigger touchscreen, the trim now gets an all-black dashboard treatment much like the rest of the trims. Automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers have now been removed from the Highline spec VW Polo. These features are now only reserved for the Highline Plus trims.

According to the report, the updated model started arriving at dealerships earlier this month without any change in the price. Volkswagen's official website lists the VW Polo Highline petrol and diesel variants with a price tag of INR 7.24 lakhs and 8.55 lakhs (ex-showroom) respectively.

There are two engine options on offer - 1.2 L MPI Petrol and 1.5 L TDI Diesel. Both engines come with a 5-speed manual transmission only.

2017 VW Polo R-Line
The arrival of the new 2017 VW Polo in India remains uncertain. The rationalization of the Volkswagen's MQB platform will play a key role in deciding the Polo nameplate's future.

Although globally Volkswagen has started rolling out the new generation Polo based on the MQB platform, its arrival in India remains shrouded in uncertainty. According to a report from August, VW is expected to take a call on optimizing MQB for the Indian market sometime soon. A favourable decision would open the doors for the introduction of multiple VW models including the new VW Polo and the VW Virtus.
