Tata Motors will expand its AMT-equipped range with the introduction of the Tata Tigor AMT in 3-4 months reports ET Auto. The company expects a significant contribution from the AMT variants to the sales of the Tigor.
Tata Motors' marketing head Vivek Srivatsa says that 50% of the future product portfolio is expected with AMT. Following the introduction of the second Tata Tiago AMT variant, the Tigor and Nexon are next in line to benefit from the technology. While the Tigor will get AMT variants before the end of this calendar year, the Tata Nexon will receive the gearbox before the end of this fiscal.
The Tigor is on sale with a choice of 1.2 L Revotron petrol and 1.05 L Revotorq diesel engines. A 5-speed manual is the sole transmission option. The AMT unit it will receive will be the same Magneti Marelli sourced F-Tronic gearbox that does duty on the Tata Tiago. The 5-speed gearbox comes with 'Creep' function and Sport mode. Like the Tiago, the Tigor is likely to get only petrol AMT variants in XT and XZ trims.
Launched on March 29, the Tata Tigor has managed to clock average monthly sales of around 2,500 units. Tata expects this number to go up to around 3,000 units this Diwali. Srivatsa said that the company expects the introduction of the AMT variants to fuel double digit growth for Tata Motors this fiscal.
The Tata Tigor currently retails for INR 4.59-6.87 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi.
