Chairman and managing director of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, has tweeted a photo from the M&M Pune two-wheeler Research and Development facility, hinting at the development of an electric scooter.
The scooter in picture, based on the colour is the Mahindra Gusto 125. Mr. Mahindra tweeted:

His tweet suggests that the new electric scooter will share its underpinnings with the Mahindra Gusto, possibly the 125cc version. The new electric scooter is likely to be sold under the brand’s two-wheeler wing.

In the US market, Mahindra has teamed up with GenZe, a Silicon Valley electric brand to make smart electric scooters and bicycles. Its prices start from USD 1,499 for the e101 Sport electric bicycle; and USD 2,999 for the GenZe 2.0 electric scooter. In India, the upcoming electric scooter would mark the brand’s foray into the electric two-wheeler segment. Mahindra is also reportedly working on a low-cost variant of its flagship motorcycle, the Mojo. It was spotted testing in July.
The petrol engine Mahindra Gusto 125 comes with a 124.6cc single cylinder engine with CVT gearbox. The mill makes 8.5 bhp of power at 7,000 rpm and 10 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. It gets telescopic front fork and hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Brakes include 130 mm drum on both ends. Expect the suspension and brake components to be carried over to the electric variant.
