The special edition was first presented at the Auto Expo last year.
Mahindra is displaying the Mahindra Thar Daybreak Edition at Surat International Auto Expo 2017. The Thar Daybreak Edition debuted at Auto Expo 2016 and is available to customers with a customisation kit. Unlike the version displayed at the Auto Expo 2016 and the APS 2017, the version in Surat has a solid roof.
The Mahindra Thar Daybreak Edition's modification is done completely by the 'Mahindra Customisation' division. The customisation takes two months to complete, and it lends the Thar a matte grey exterior, hood scoop, LED-powered rings inside the headlamps and LED tail lamps.
A few other noteworthy features of the Mahindra Thar Daybreak Edition include 37-inch Maxxis Trepador tyres for increased ground clearance and rock crawling capability, factory-fitted winch attached to a set of Stinger Bumpers to increase the protection for the vehicle's radiators and chrome-finished dual exhausts.

The Mahindra Thar Daybreak Edition does not come with engine upgrades. Under the hood is the familiar 2.5-litre CRDe engine that develops 79 kW (105 bhp) and at 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm of torque between 1,800-2,000 rpm, and channels power to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The Daybreak Edition customisation kit reportedly costs INR 9.6 lakh. Customers willing to add a solid roof will have to shell out INR 1.5 lakh extra.
