The new Audi A5 Sportback g-tron is Audi's third model in the product range which can run on a choice of climate-friendly Audi e-gas, natural gas (CNG) or gasoline. It's on showcase at the IAA 2017 in Frankfurt, and currently retails at a starting price of EUR 43,390.
From the exterior, the Sportback g-tron looks identical to the regular variants. It measures 4,733 mm in length, 1,843 mm in width (2,029 mm with door mirrors open) and 1,386 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,824 mm. It shares the MLB Evo platform with the A4 Avant g-tron. Some of the exterior features of the A5 Sportback g-tron include Matrix LED headlights, dynamic turn signals, frameless doors, 19-inch wheels, LED tail lights.
The A5 Sportback's interior follows the theme we have seen in the latest crop of MLB-based Audis. There are a range of interior upholstery colours, optional s-line seats with diamond stitching, Audi Virtual cockpit, standard MMI Radio through a 7-inch display or an optional MMI Navigation Plus with an 8.3-inch screen.
Under the hood is a 2.0 TFSI 4-cyl turbo motor that develops 125 kW (170 hp) of power and 270 Nm of torque. The CNG tanks can store 19 kilograms of gas at a pressure of 200 bar and has a range of up to 500 kilometres on natural gas. The automatic switch to gasoline adds 450 kilometres.
It can be had with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed S-Tronic automatic gearbox. With the former option, the A5 g-tron can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds. Top speed is 226 km/h.
