Proton Ertiga launched as Malaysia’s first compact MPV with Energy Efficient Vehicle status.
Priced between RM 58,800 and RM 64,800, the Proton Ertiga will be available both as a manual and automatic.
The MPV is the fourth and final car for Proton in 2016 and is the first model from their alliance with Suzuki. The Malaysian carmaker signed a MoU with Suzuki back in June 2015. This allows Proton to have access to Suzuki’s products, powertrain and platforms.
Powering the Proton Ertiga is the same 1.4 litre mill seen in the Indian model. The DOHC K14B engine churns out 92 PS of maximum power at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Transmission options include a five-speed manual and a four-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The fuel efficiency figures are 5.7 litre/100 km for the manual and 6.0 litre/100 km for the automatic.
Placed below the Proton Exora, the Proton Ertiga gets features like 2nd-row aircon vents, two-tone interior lighting, 60:40 fold 2nd-row seats, a 50:50 fold 3rd-row seats, four speakers and a sound system. The Executive Plus variant, which gets the automatic gearbox, is packed with auto fold ORVMs with integrated indicators, driver seat height adjuster and 2 tweeters to boost the sound system.
In terms of safety both variants get dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX seats. Both the trims have a 4-star ASEAN NCAP crash test rating. The Proton Ertiga has a fuel tank of 45 litres and a storage space of 735 litres with both 2nd and 3rd row seats folded.
The Proton Ertiga measures 4,265 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,685 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,740mm. The ground clearance is 185 mm.
