For the Desert Rally, the Vitara Brezza is being driven by Karthick Maruthi, who had also emerged as the winner of the National Super League Rally Championship with a yellow-and-white Maruti Vitara Brezza. He will be challenging last year's winner, Aabhishek Mishra from Jaipur, who is driving the Maruti Suzuki Vitara in the rally.

This year’s Desert Rally will follow flexi-route format in the Xplore category [Delhi to Jaisalmer (Xplore Dawn) and from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur (Xplore Dusk)]. Both legs will run for 3 days and independent of each other. The objective of such a format is to provide short length rally exposure and encourage bigger participation.
