Volkswagen is displaying the second generation 2016 VW Tiguan at Auto China 2016 (2016 Beijing Motor Show) in the Sport R-Line specification. First showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA), the second generation VW Tiguan will be sold worldwide from this year.
The all-new VW Tiguan is the company's first crossover/SUV category vehicle to be based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB (modular transverse matrix) platform. The new generation Tiguan, in the European specification, measures 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width and 1,632 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,681 mm. It's over 50 kg lighter than the previous generation model. At the back of the rear bench, up to 615 litres of cargo can be accommodated. Folding the rear seat backrests, the load space can be increased 1,655 litres – an improvement of 145 litres from the previous generation model.
The 2016 VW Tiguan is available with eight engine options divided equally into TSI petrol and TDI diesel units. The four TSI petrol engines have power outputs of 125 PS (123 hp), 150 PS (148 hp), 180 PS (178 hp) and 220 PS (217 hp). The four TDI diesel engines have outputs of 115 PS (113 hp), 150 PS (148 hp), 190 PS (187 hp) and 240 PS (237 hp). Front-wheel drive drivetrain configuration is standard, but all-wheel drive drivetrain configuration is available moving up the range.
Noteworthy features of the 2016 VW Tiguan include dual LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, heatable steering wheel, Pure Air Climatronic three-zone automatic climate control system, 8.0-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system and ergoActive seat with electric 4-way lumbar support and massage function.
