Is being touted as the "world's first plug-in hybrid 4WD SUV."
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will make its European premiere at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show that will begin from September 15, 2015.
The new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has the same Dynamic Shield fascia that is seen on other Mitsubishi models. The headlights are LED units and there are LED DRLs housed within the assembly. The lower portion gets bumper extensions and circular fog lamps with chrome surrounds.
The sides have received chrome garnish on the baseline and roof rails. Also seen are the dual-tone side mirrors and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear gets LED stop lamps and its fair share of chrome embellishments. There are two fresh paint options of Ruby Black Pearl and Quartz Brown Metallic.
The interiors have become more premium and luxurious. The revisions have been made to seat upholstery and materials, and a Luxurious Brown upholstery option has also been added. Accent stitching on the seats and door trim further up the appeal of the cabin.
The four-spoke steering wheel is also wrapped in leather and features mounted controls with a chrome finish. The instrument cluster hood gets accent stitching and the large center console features a black mirror finish with black stream pattern. Mitsubishi says that the engine, tire and wind noise have been substantially reduced owing to more than 30 developments.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s hybrid system consists of a Twin Motor 4WD drivetrain having motors on the front and rear axles; these draw power from the high-capacity battery situated under the floor. The company says that reduction in engine friction has led to CO2 emissions coming down to 42 g/km from 44 g/km.
The Outlander PHEV has a two-way electrical power supply capability called V2H. This technology enables the car to supply power to the home from the battery when it’s parked.
The car will go on sale in Europe this month.
