The 2016 i20 WRC will have a five-door hatchback body style.
Hyundai has unveiled the 2016 i20 WRC rally car at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car showcased is a five-door i20 unlike the three door hatch they raced in the 2015 season.
This WRC race car is the first product from Hyundai’s newly established N performance division and is based on the production i20. The face of the WRC i20 gets wide six-point mesh grille with N branded all over it, large air intakes and wide bumpers. There are also louvers on the bonnet as well as a roof scoop. The sides get massive wheel arches and slim side mirrors. The rear has a huge two-piece spoiler, angular tail lights and a rectangular exhaust.
The car is currently undergoing testing ahead of its debut at Rally Monte Carlo in January 2016. Hyundai states that the car features optimized weight distribution, greater powertrain efficiency and enhanced aerodynamics.
The company mentions that the new i20 WRC will demonstrate Hyundai’s ability to enhance its high-performance DNA and continue to compete in motorsports, as the N brand works towards building a lineup of full road-going cars.
