The Mahindra XUV500 automatic is available in three variants.

The company has used the 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission unit that is already doing duty in the SsangYong Tivoli and the SsangYong Korando C (diesel). This is a second generation transmission that uses a torque converter and a planetary geartrain.

The gearbox gets two overdrive ratios (the 5th and the 6th), and has a creep function too. This function is useful for moving in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and for reversing at a slow pace. The transmission also has two uphill driving modes and is capable of automatically adapting to mid- and high-altitudes, and has a manual mode as well.
