Most affordable car with over 140 hp of peak power.
The Fiat Abarth Punto was launched today, at an ex-showroom Delhi price of INR 9.95 lakhs. It is now the most powerful hatchback in the sub-INR 10 lakh category, with about 40 hp higher peak power than the Volkswagen Polo GT. It is also the most affordable car in India that packs more than 140 hp.
The Abarth Punto is available in two colours, Pearl White and Hip Hop Black. A third, matte grey version of the hot hatch was showcased during its unveiling at the Buddh International Circuit, and was spied outside a dealership earlier, but is not on offer.
The car measures 3,989 mm in length, 1,687 mm in width, 1,505 mm in height and 2,510 mm in wheelbase. The ground clearance is 155 mm compared to 185-195 mm in the standard Punto, courtesy of lowered and stiffened suspension.
The car features helical coil-spring with double-acting telescopic dampers on each front wheel, and the same with a torsion beam on rear wheels. Both, the front and the rear suspensions, gets a stabiliser bar.
The Abarth Punto is powered by the familiar 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine, that outputs 145 hp and 212 Nm, and is teamed up with a 5-speed manual transmission. The hatchback is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds, and can deliver a mileage of 16.3 km/l as per ARAI.
